潛進綠島

In recent years. Taiwan's tourists have been
discorvering the islands around Taiwan. and
Green lsland has become one of the favorites.just
an eight-minute flight east of Taitung(台東).it has
beautiful beaches with clear. colorful water. And as
people have been learinig. its waters are a
paradise for snorkeling and diving. just as its
beaches are for vacationing.

從台東東岸出發只需八分鐘的飛行航程
綠島擁有海水清澈多彩的美麗海灘

History 綠島歷史

From the late 1940s to the late 1980s.
there was a political prison on Green
lsland. During this time. not many
visitors were allowed onto the island.ln
1990. however. it was opened to the
public. and over thelast decade.a
small tourist industry has grown there.



綠島到40年待末期到80年代末期其間
曾有專收政治犯的監獄
這段時間內獲准來此的訪客不多
然而 綠島在1990年對外開放
而過去10年中 小型觀光業已儼然在此行成







The lsland 綠島簡介

Green lsland's entire coastline is only twenty
kilometers long. and its area is only sixteen
square kilometers. it can be covered by car in
about forty minutes. The main peak on the vol-
canic island is Huoshaushan(火燒山)which
stands only 281 meters high

The island itself used to be called Huoshau-
tao(火燒島literally fire-burning island)This
was because (according to one legend)the
islanders used to light large fires at night to
direct the fishermen home still today. most of
the3000 residents are fishermen.




綠島海岸線有20 公里長。它的面積只有16 平方公里。
開車環島約四十分鐘。
火燒島上的主峰只有281公尺高
綠島舊稱火燒島
(字面上是起火燒的島)
這是因為(根據傳說)
過去 島上居民在晚上會點燃熊熊的烈火來引導漁民回航
直至今日 三千名居民中大多還是以漁民
